LGBTQ+ Art History: David Hockney and Physique Pictorial
Richard Meyer
Art historian Richard Meyer will explore the connection between Hockney’s early work and Physique Pictorial, a monthly, L.A.-based magazine illustrated with photographs of nearly nude musclemen in jocks or posing straps. Richard invites us to look at Physique Pictorial from Hockney’s perspective while imagining how the magazine—and the men who posed for it--might have responded to Hockney’s art in turn.
