Steve Klein
Steve Klein (American, born 1946), Shelter 2, 2010, kiln-formed glass. Gift of David Kaplan and Glenn Ostergaard, 2019.161a-b.
Steve Klein has been producing distinctive glass art since the mid-1990s. An alumnus in Theatre Arts from California State University, Long Beach, Klein began his career in glass art almost 30 years later – studying at the famed Pilchuck Glass School founded by Dale Chihuly near Seattle.
In Shelter 2, the artist pulls together colorful geometric shapes with strong line and texture into a cohesive form. Within the stripes, for a fleeting moment, one discovers in this work the movement, light, and luminous essence of glass. The artist states: “My work seeks to explore and appreciate memories, consequences, and the fragile state of balance.”
