Nancy Callan

Nancy Callan (American), Flamingo Cloud, 2010, blown glass. Gift of David Kaplan and Glenn Ostergaard, 2019.95.

Boston native Nancy Callan joined the Seattle glass community in 1996 after receiving her BFA from Massachusetts College of Art. She is among the next generation of glass artists who have interacted with the pioneers of the Studio Glass movement.

In developing her own unique voice as a glass sculptor and utilizing her high-level training and talents, Callan combines the skill and finesse of the Venetian glass tradition with the wit of a contemporary artist. Her artwork features highly refined forms and complex patterns, allied with a prominent sense of play and fun. To achieve her patterns, Callan builds upon the Venetian cane technique, wherein rods of glass are fused together before being rolled around a globe of transparent glass.
