Modern & Contemporary Collection
This collection is at the heart of the museum’s identity and its mission. It contains approximately 3,000 sculptures, paintings and prints, 2,000 fine art photographs, and another 40,000 negatives, contact sheets and other photo-based objects.
Architecture & Design Collection
The museum’s architectural assets, including the Albert Frey House II, the E. Stewart Williams-designed Palm Springs Art Museum, and Architecture and Design Center building, are an integral part of the museum’s permanent collection.
Art of the West in the Americas
Native American Art, including basketry, textiles, pottery, Kachinas, jewelry and utilitarian objects, has been a collecting theme of the museum since its origin in 1938 and remains one of the main collecting and installation focuses.
Library Catalog
Established in 1938, the library collection is housed in the Docent Study Center, Hoover, Hyman, and Toor libraries. The library has over 11,000 books, 2,500 artist files, art periodicals, clipping files, auction house catalogs, and reference resources.
