This exhibition invites visitors to explore the diverse stories of the American West through three unique galleries. Together, they highlight the region’s beauty, rich history, and cultural depth.
Desert Landscapes
Spanning over 140 years, this gallery highlights desert landscape paintings of the American West from 1871 to 2015. By juxtaposing historic and modern artworks, it provides a visual narrative of artists’ ever-changing attitudes toward the desert.
The Modern West
This gallery, including paintings, sculptures, and a video, explores the complexity of our cultural terrain. It brings together artworks by artists from diverse cultural heritages, religious communities, and sexual identities who challenge traditional long-standing myths and conceptions about our perceptions of the American West.
Pattern/Repeat
This gallery presents a selection of works in a variety of media by Indigenous artists dating from the early 19th Century to today. It brings together artists working in traditional styles with contemporary artists who derive inspiration and influence from their rich cultural heritage.
