Teen Docents give tours to elementary school children to help them learn how to look at and talk about art. The program is open to students enrolled in a Coachella Valley high school during the school year.

Participants come to the museum for three weeks in August to learn art history, public speaking, tour development and how to have fun at the museum.

Training helps them prepare questions, learn how to think on their feet in front of an audience and accept and encourage multiple interpretations of a work of art. In September teens come once a week to practice and tour from October to mid-December. 

In addition, participants who complete the program receive school credit, a small gift of appreciation and a one-year membership to the museum.

Funding is provided by the Jeanette C. McIntyre and Frederick (Lash) McIntyre Charitable Foundation Trust with additional funding from the Coeta and Donald Barker Foundation.
