Contemporary Art Council

The Contemporary Art Council raises money to underwrite one exhibition each year and to purchase an artwork for the permanent collection. The CAC members also present provocative lectures and tour major art collections locally, nationally and around the world. This past year the CAC raised over $320,000 at their semi-annual art auction.

Contemporary Arts Council ARTrageous Auction, 2008

On Monday, January 28, 2008, the Contemporary Art Council sponsored the eye-popping ARTrageous Auction 2008, to raisie funds for the Art Museum’s acquisitions, programs and exhibitions. The live auction was conducted by noted auctioneer James G. Niven and the highly acclaimed artists in this auction included: Louise Bourgeois, Salvador Dali, Alex Katz, Jeff Koons, David Salle, Frank Stella and many others. The Auction was chaired by Myrna Kaplan and Audrey Strachan with Marilyn Loesberg for Art Acquisitions and Carol Frankel and Jeanne Levitt for Underwriting.

The Palm Springs Art Museum is the only accredited art museum in the Inland Empire region (including Riverside and San Bernardino counties with a combined population of 2,500,000 million residents). The Art Museum is located in the Coachella Valley, a 450-square mile area comprised of nine desert cities with a permanent population of 400,000, expanding to over 550,000 during the winter months.
